About XFC
What is the XFC?
The Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) is one of the largest independent mixed martial arts organisations in the world. The promotion is based out of Spring Lake, Michigan, with offices that have included New York, Fort Lauderdale, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires. Over its history it has been partnered with major open television broadcasters in Latin America, with large internet portals, and with premium cable and satellite networks, and it has carried a roster of exclusively signed fighters drawn from more than thirty-five countries.
The XFC competes in a Hexagon rather than a cage or a ring. The six-sided enclosure is the visual signature of the promotion, and it is the stage on which the organisation's scouting philosophy is supposed to become visible to the audience.
A different kind of MMA organisation
Founded in 2006, the XFC had a vision to seek out, sign and brand a new generation of mixed martial arts fighters. With the world's fastest growing sport still young, the promotion set out to assemble the most exciting and well-rounded athletes from around the globe and to compete in all major weight classes for both men and women.
Its model blends rising prospects with established veterans in the same Hexagon. The organisation has always argued that the most talented fighters in the sport have yet to be matched against each other, and that belief is what its marketing language, The Next Generation of MMA, is meant to describe.
- Founded in 2006 as a fighter-first promotion.
- A roster drawn from more than thirty-five countries.
- Competition across all major male and female weight classes.
- Development through the YoungGuns series and the tournament structure.
Forging XFC
In 2007 the promotion set a statewide attendance record, drawing more than 13,000 fans to the St. Pete Times Forum in Florida, and events held at that venue subsequently brought in over 10,000 fans each. In April 2009 the XFC held its first televised fight card in Tennessee, aired on HDNet, which is now AXS TV.
Through the years that followed the organisation produced a run of nationally televised MMA events on AXS TV, establishing itself among the leading professional promotions in the world. In the winter of 2013 it announced a partnership with Rede TV!, one of the largest open television broadcasters in Latin America, and in 2014 its first International Tournament and Super-Fight Series in the region set new network ratings.
The meaning of the X
Fighters and fans have repeatedly asked what the XFC "X" means and why it has been embraced so quickly by the audience and the media. The promotion's answer is that it stands for more than a logo. The X is described as symbolising respect, courage, determination, integrity and honour, and it is presented as a statement of the organisation's character rather than as a design choice.
That framing matters to how the promotion presents itself. A promotion can compete on the quality of its fights alone, but a symbol that fighters are willing to wear is a commercial asset: it appears on merchandise, in the Hexagon and in the promotional material for every card, and it gives an audience something to identify with beyond a single event.
The XFC Hexagon
The Hexagon is the promotion's competition surface and its most recognisable asset. A distinct enclosure gives a promotion a consistent look across venues, which is valuable when events are produced for television rather than only for the people in the building: camera positions, lighting and sponsor placement can be designed once and repeated, lowering production cost and making the broadcast instantly recognisable to a viewer scrolling through channels.
Executives have consistently described the shape as more than a set piece, presenting it as the environment that allows the promotion's scouting philosophy to become visible. For fighters it is a defined arena that behaves differently from a cage or a ring, and the adjustment to it is part of what the tryout programme evaluates.
