Silvana “La Malvada” Gómez Juárez stole the show at XFC International 1, which was held Feb. 8 in 2014 under the bright lights in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
In the first bout of the Argentinian’s inspiring run in the XFC cage, Gómez Juárez dug deep to climb to 3-0 as a pro with a late, come-from-behind armbar victory against the previously unbeaten Bianca “Bibi” Daimoni in women’s flyweight action.
XFC President Myron Molotky still often thinks about Gómez Juárez’s early days in the Hexagon.
“Silvana is the best kept secret in combat sports,” he says. “She arrives, puts on an incredible show, is the highest-level professional and always, always leaves an impression on our fans. When she enters the XFC Hexagon again soon, there’s no doubt that she will become a global sensation!”
Thiago Meller may have only fought once in the Xtreme Fighting Championships cage, but the former star Brazilian featherweight definitely made an impression.
“Minu,” as he’s known to fans, needed less than four minutes to earn his 21st career victory by knocking out American challenger Clay French, who brought an impressive 19-6 record into battle, in the Main Event.
In the Co-Main Event, fast-rising Brazilian Fernando “Fernandinho” Vieira showcased his world-class grappling skills with a second-round Americana submission victory over Marcelo Rojo, who was making his XFC debut after establishing himself as Argentina’s top featherweight contender.
Earlier in the action, Brazilian Gilson Lomanto’s thrilling, back-and-forth, three-round victory over Mexico’s Daniel Salas earned Fight of the Night honors, and was regarded by many as one of the best fights of 2014.
XFC 43 goes down Nov. 11 in Atlanta, LIVE on NBC Sports Network. Stay tuned for more information for this historic relaunch event!
